A Childhood Story
December 7, 2009
Here’s a beautiful story I heard from my mother.
A little girl, of age nine, went with her classmates for a school homework on a rainy Saturday morning. The rain was pouring very hard as they walked along the highway. On the way to their classmates house, they have to cross the pedestrian. The children walked side by side and safely reached the other side of the road. The little girl, balancing against the surge of the heavy rains was left behind and have to cross the road by herself. The wind blew strong and she held tight to her umbrella. When suddenly, a fast approaching car drove fast, and hit the little girl. The last thing she knew, she was a kilometer away dragged by the car that lost its break. Blood gushed along the floodwaters. Then followed darkness.
People rushing in and out of the hospital room, woke the little girl. Numb to all the pains, she just stared at the people around her and listened to what were they saying. The doctor explained to the mother that the set bones on the girls nape (cervical vertebrae), the one at the top of the spinal column connecting to the brain, was totally disarrayed and needs a major orthopedic realignment operation. This terrified the mother. The girl was then scheduled to move to a bigger hospital in the city for the operation. The mother, having nowhere to turn to, found herself at the foot of the Cross, imploring God’s mercy. In utmost surrender, she made a deal with God, that if only her little girl survive this peril, she will offer her daughter to Him. With that, and all the faith in her heart, the mother head on to the hospital to attend to her little girl.
On the day of the operation, the doctors checked the set of bones of the little girl. To their great surprise, there was not even a fractured or displaced bone in her nape. They checked it thrice and found really nothing to operate or align. It was a perfect set of bones! Then there was no more operation, the little girl was sent home and in a few days was back to her normal life.
Miracles do happen. There can be miracles, when you believe… says a song.
